Hard Steering

  • The power steering pump is not working properly
  • You may not have enough hydraulic fluid in the system
  • Check for loose belts at the power steering pump
  • You could have the wrong pump for the application
  • The steering could be out of alignment
  • There could be too much weight on the front axle
  • Check for air in the hydraulic system
  • The steering gear could be internally leaking causing it to bypass
  • Check for the proper tire pressure
  • You could have oversized tires for the steering system
  • The hoses could be kinked or obstructed
  • Contamination in the pump restricting its flow
  • A low flow output from the pump
  • Low pressure rate due to external leaks in the steering system
  • The control valve could be not working properly
