Darting or wandering

  • There could be play in the pitman arm
  • Check for air in the system
  • A loose spring pin or spring shackle bolt can cause this problem
  • The steering gear may not be adjusted correctly
  • Loose king pin or wheel bearings
  • Check for a dry fifth wheel plate
  • The pump could have too much oil flow
  • Check the mounting bolts for the steering gear, make sure they’re not loose
  • Damage or extreme wear in the steering unit
  • The steering unit could have an internal binding problem
  • There could be a tight or frozen tie rod end or draglink socket
